Original diagnosis/description

This cone-scar? is roughly circular, or oval. The centre is a circle of about ½ in., showing the scars of broken vessels as pits on the surface; at the base of each impression the circle approaches near to a sinus, opposite to what looks like a stalk or branch; this latter is always present; surrounding the inner circle is a ring of striated tissue, the striae lying in radial positions.

Emended diagnosis

McLoughlin et al. (2018: Palaeobio. Palaeoenv., 98(1): 85):
Gynoecium more-or-less bilaterally symmetrical, circular, elliptical or obovate, borne on a stout to slender pedicel. Ovules and interseminal scales form a marginal rim around receptacle and possibly covering abaxial surface. Interseminal scales rod-shaped, prismatic; ovules c. four to five times the width of interseminal scales but otherwise similar in shape.
