Original diagnosis/description
Leaf simple, petiolate; blade microphyll, petiole attachment marginal; blade elliptical to oblong, and symmetrical, apex and base angle acute; base shape convex to decurrent. Primary venation pinnate, secondary venation polygonal reticulodromous; major secondary veins with decurrent attachment.
Intercostal tertiary veins regular polygonal reticulate, and conspicuous thickened margin. Adaxial and abaxial cuticle with isodiametric epidermal cells, with a rectangular organized pattern towards the margins, and trichome abscission thickened scars. Stomatal complexes cyclocytic and amphistomatic, more abundant on abaxial epidermis than on adaxial, and randomly oriented.
Etymology
Dedicated to the memory of Carlos Bernardo Padilla, a great promoter of paleontology in Colombia.
