Types

Original diagnosis/description

Sample of secondary xylem with a minimum estimated diameter of 9 cm (Table 1). Growth ring boundaries indistinct to distinct. Wood diffuse-porous. Vessels mostly solitary. Scalariform perforation plates with usually more than 20 bars. Intervessel pits scalariform to transitional. Vessel-ray parenchyma pits opposite to scalariform. Axial parenchyma common, diffuse and diffuse-in-aggregates. Rays heterocellular, usually 2–3 cells wide. Fibres pitted.

Etymology

Trichospermoides, for the similarities with the wood of extant Weinmannia trichosperma.
