Original diagnosis/description
More than 1500 sporangia tightly packed in globose-ovate fertile organs. Fertile organs alternate, 15 mm in diameter and attached to secondary pinna rachis 2.4 mm wide. Uniseriate, multicellular trichomes 2 mm long, covering all order of rachises. Epidermal cells of secondary pinna rachis polygonal and 25–50 μm in diameter. Penultimate rachises 0.4 mm wide, alternate on central rachis of sporangium mass. Ultimate rachises vary from 0.2 to 0.3 mm. Sporangia solitary placed at the end of ultimate rachises. Sporangia ovoid, 470 (560) 695 μm long, 354 (450) 541 μm wide. Apical part of sporangium (just closely above lateral annulus) consists of small thin-walled polygonal cells. The annulus is horizontally elongated, and consists of thick-walled cells. Dehiscence area consisting of a four-seriate band of thinwalled cells. Thin-walled cells of the sporangium wall are polygonal, sometimes elongated.
Spores trilete, triangular to subtriangular, 33 (38.2) 43 μm in diameter, sides concave to straight. Rays of the trilete mark one-half of the radius. Finely scabrate, microspinate to microgranulate laevigate exine 1 μm thick.
Etymology
In honour of Prof. Manfred Barthel from the Museum für Naturkunde, Berlin, a famous palaeobotanist and friend.
