Types

Original diagnosis/description

Lateral units of inflorescence typically bearing five sessile flowers, one in a median position proximal to the bifurcation and two on each lobe. Flowers distinctly triangular in cross section. Perianth consisting of an outer whorl of short triangular tepals and an inner whorl of longer narrowly to broadly triangular tepals with a distinct keel. Anther dehiscence introrse in the two outer whorls of fertile stamens, latrorse-extrorse in the inner whorl of fertile stamens. Anthers with an expanded distal connective. Inner surface of tepals, stamens, and staminode-like structures often covered by closely spaced hairs.
