Types

Original diagnosis/description

Flower small and actinomorphic. Two types of scars present outside the gynoecium. Basalmost scars large and oval, ~15 in spiral arrangement. Distal scars small and quadrangular, ~60 in spiral arrangement. Gynoecium syncarpous, composed of 13 carpels arranged radially around a central column. Ovary partly inferior. Carpel flanks united in the center and free at the periphery forming septal slits.

Etymology

From lat. lacunus (hollow), refers to the septal slits in the carpel flanks.

Sample 082, Puddledock locality, Tarmac Lone Star Industries sand and gravel pit, located south of Richmond and east of the Appomattox River in Prince George County, Virginia.
