Original diagnosis/description

Heptamerous, actinomorphic flower, with seven lobed corolla (or calyx) and 14 stamens. Perianth lobes (petals or sepals) elliptic with slightly acute apices. Anthers elliptical, about 3 times longer than wide, containing two pollen sacs with permanent pollen tetrads of the Kalmia-type in situ.

Etymology

After the village of Menat,Puyde-Dôme, France, where the holotype was discovered and the Greek ανθος (in the Latinised form anthus), meaning flower.
