Original diagnosis/description
Fruits small, formed from bisexual, epigynous flowers. Tepals six, triangular. Androecium of six stamens, each opposite one of the small tepals. Gynoecium of three fused carpels with three short, persistent styles. Ovary trilocular, each locule containing two ovules. Each ovule apparently anatropous, attached axially and apically within the locule. Ovary maturing into a fruit with one to three seeds.
Etymology
From the name of one of the families to which the fossil is closely related.
