Original diagnosis/description
Spheroidal structures that are invariably separate but may be associated with similar bodies. Outer wall generally granular, less commonly smooth, refractive index greater than quartz, generally clear, less commonly iron-stained, unornamented or variously ornamented with many short spines or one prominent long plug or spine of constant diameter more birefringent than quartz. Observed diameter varies from 1.9 to 8.1 μm.
Etymology
Refers to the refractive bubblelike nature of these structures.
