Types

Original diagnosis/description

Fruiting units narrowly elliptic to elliptical in outline, borne on a short oblique stalk. Outer epidermal cells of fruit wall large, each with a central unicellular hair that ends in a distinctive, recurved, hook-shaped tip. Stigmatic branch long and slender. Inner cuticle of seed with strongly undulate cell pattern in micropylar area. Pollen grains monocolpate, circular to elliptical in outline, tectate, irregular verrucate and finely echinate; ektexine granular-columellate with a thick foot layer, and a thinner solid tectum; endexine very thin in nonapertural regions, strongly thickened and distinctly laminate under the colpus.

Etymology

From ancistron (Greek) fish-hook, and phoros (Greek) bearing.
