Original diagnosis/description

Secondary xylem with distinct growth rings, marked by terminal parenchyma. Diffuse porous wood. Vessels circular to oval in outline, solitary, in radial multiples of 2–4, and/or diagonal pattern. Vessel elements of medium size, often with short tails. Intervessel pits medium, alternate, and vestured. Small helical thickenings in vessel elements. Axial paratracheal parenchyma mainly aliform to aliform confluent, rarely lozenge–aliform. Axial parenchyma in narrow bands and marginal parenchyma. Parenchyma cells in strand with 2–4 cells. Prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells. Rays homocellular, procumbent cells, 1–2 seriate. Fibres thick-walled. All elements storied.
