Types

Holotype MB.Pb.2008/0105, Museum für Naturkunde, Berlin, Germany
Figures: pl. 2, figs 3–5

Note: Holotype refigured in Pšenička et al. 2017, Rev. Palaeobot. Palynol., 236: pl. I, fig. 6.

Repository and inv. no. of holotype according to Pšenička et al. (2017: Rev. Palaeobot. Palynol., 236: 63). In the time of description, the type was in the private collection. Remy and Remy (1958: 10) state "Das Original zur dieser Art wird z. Z. in der Privatsammlung von Herrn O. Gimm/Elgersburg aufbewahrt".

PFNR Administrator's note: The speciement figured by Pšenička et al. (2017: Rev. Palaeobot. Palynol., 236: 63) seems to be probably a counterpart to the specimen figured by Remy and Remy (1958: Sitz.-Ber. Dtsch. Akad. Wiss. Berl., Kl. Chem. Geol. Biol., 1958(3): pl. 2, figs 3–5).

Original diagnosis/description

[p. 10] Sporophylle schlankkonisch, etwa 8 – 10 cm lang und randlich mit 18 – 20 Sporangien pro 1 cm Seitenlänge besetzt. Sporangien in Gruppen zu 2 bis 4. Sporangienlänge etwa 3 mm bei 0,5 mm Breite. Laubformgattung ?Taeniopteris.

emended diagnosis [Pšenička et al. 2017: Rev. Palaeobot. Palynol., 236: 63]: Flat sporophylls greater than 80 mm long and 13 mm wide, with 3–4 mm wide midrib, bearing synangia that consist of 2–4 basally fused sporangia, 3 mm long and 0.5 mm wide, arranged marginally on an extremely reduced leaf lamina; sporophyll equipped with 6 synangia per 10 mm of leaf margin.

Etymology

Als Artname soll, entsprechend der Vielzahl von Sporangien, Manebachia polysporangiata n. gen. n. sp. gelten.

Stratigraphy

Permian, Cisuralian, Asselian
Asselian according to Pšenička et al. 2017: Rev. Palaeobot. Palynol., 236: 63.

Remy and Remy (1958: 7) specify the horizon as "In dem Hangenden des Manebacher Oberflözes...".
